The purpose of this step is to
Translate business requirements into the system/services design.
Make sure that the system/services design is in compliance with DOI enterprise architecture.
Make sure that existing components and services are leveraged where feasible.

Step objectives
Define the detailed solution architecture for the Business Focus Area.
Ensure the solution architecture is compliant with the DOI enterprise architecture.
Promote reusable components, shared infrastructure, and leveraged assets.

Who needs to be involved
Core Modernization Implementation Team Representative
Chief Technology Officer (CTO) (or delegate)
Solution Architecture Team
Development Team

Key work products
Solution architecture including low level depictions of what will be constructed.

Conceptual Data Model
Integrated Services and Systems Model
Data Standards Document
Business Focus Area Recommendations and Findings for Process Improvement Document (from Step 8)
Business Focus Area Exhibit 300 (if applicable)
Business Focus Area related docs such as requirements and normalized processes (from Step 8)

Relationship to other steps
This Step leverages the work products created during all previous Steps, particularly the Blueprint and Business Process Reengineering.
The work products from this Step will be leveraged, along with the Blueprint, in Step 12 (solution implementation).
